A collaboration with violinist Fenella Humphreys presenting a programme of British works for violin and piano from the first half of the twentieth century. Premiere recordings include Thomas Pitfield’s Sonata No. 1, works by C.W. Orr, Cyril Scott, and Percy M. Young. Doreen Carwithen’s Sonata is the programme’s centrepiece, and works by John Ireland, Lennox Berkeley, Frederick Delius complete the disc.
Both players sound well attuned to the atyles and expressive purposes of each work, whether the formal abstraction of Carwithen and Young or the undeclared programmes behind Delius or Scott. Beautifully clear sound, too… Guy Rickards, Gramophone
