Hornpipe

A virtuosic arrangement of the song ‘Dance of Death’ from the song cycle ‘Grey and Green are all my Light’. The original song sees the ghosts of lost fishermen summoned by the bells of the submerged Dunwich churches where they dance a grisly ‘Danse Macabre’. This short virtuosic arrangement for violin and piano reimagines the song as played by a devilish fiddler, taking a cue from Saint-Saens and Paganini – but all in the style of a rustic sailor’s hornpipe.
