Nathan is closely involved in all sorts of music-making and music educational activity within his hometown of Southwold – playing music in various local churches, directing amateur instrumental groups and choirs, and composing and arranging music for special town occasions and ceremonial events.

More recently, in response to the Covid restrictions, Nathan joined with Magnus and Marije Johnston, two distinguished violinists temporarily living in the town, in staging informal outdoor events for the benefit of the local community. From December 2020 these events moved to St Edmund’s Church, Southwold, performing to small, socially distanced audiences as well as live streaming online. This initiative also features specially tailored, online music education events for Southwold Primary School.

Further afield, Nathan has worked on the Britten Sinfonia’s ‘Tuning Up’ project – a series of creative musical workshops with residents of HMP Whitemoor – and Mahogany Opera’s ‘Snappy Operas’ project as both composer and pianist.

Between 2008 and 2019 Nathan presented dozens of outreach concerts with young performers from the Yehudi Menuhin School in primary and special needs schools across Surrey and South London.

As a member of Piano Circus he has also conducted performance and composition workshops at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Edge Hill University and Brighton College.
